On 22nd of March 2018, the workshop on “Energy Education Exchanges in Mekong Area” was held in Faculty of Engineering of National University of Laos (NUOL), and guests from Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) and Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) has attended.
The purpose of the workshop is to have DEEM project partners, particularly NUOL, ITC and RUPP can exchange Current situation of the energy sector, energy education as well as environmental education in the respective countries.
The field trip was organized after the workshop. The partners left for Xayabouri on the 24th of March and visited Xayabouri Hydropower Dam, one of the dams on Mekong River which is now under the construction. During the visit, the staff of the dam presented the project information and progress. There was also Q&A question where the staff explained to the guest about the energy demand and supply in the area and how the project will help with this issue, and how the project minimize environmental and social impacts to the local people.
Moreover, the guests were able to visit the construction site where the work on turbine installation was ongoing. After the construction site, the guests visited on of the resettlement village from the dam and see how their lives have been changing after the hydropower project.
